Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common questions we get at EyeRims Optical.
Appointments & Eye Exams
We provide comprehensive eye exams including routine vision checks, contact lens fittings, children’s vision assessments, and tests for eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
For most people, we recommend a routine eye exam every 1-2 years, however, if you have existing eye conditions, your optometrist may recommend more frequent examinations. If you notice any changes in your vision, never hesitate to call and book in.
A standard eye exam takes under 30 minutes. If your optometrist recommends additional testing, we’ll let you know what’s involved and how long it will take.
Bring your current glasses or contact lenses, any relevant medical history, your Medicare card and private health fund information, and any previous eye exam records if available.
Billing, Insurance, & Payments
Yes, we bulk-bill eligible eye exams through Medicare, meaning no out-of-pocket cost for most standard services.
If your policy includes optical cover, it may contribute to the cost of prescription glasses or contact lenses. We offer HICAPS for instant on-the-spot claiming. We also have a range of no- or low-out-of-pocket eyeglasses to suit all budgets.
We accept major credit/debit cards, cash, and private health fund claims via HICAPS. If you can't make it in store, we accept over-the-phone payment and can post your order to you.
Eyewear & Vision Solutions
Progressive lenses are advanced multifocal lenses that are customised according to your work, your lifestyle, and your hobbies. Providing clear vision at multiple distances without any visible line, they are a fan favourite for their convenience.
Here’s how they compare to other lens types:
- Single-vision lenses: These have one prescription throughout the entire lens and are typically used for either distance or near vision.
- Bifocal lenses: These have two distinct sections, one for distance and one for near vision, separated by a visible line.
For maximum protection, choose sunglasses labeled UV400. Larger frames and wraparound styles provide better coverage for your eyes and surrounding skin. The colour of the lens you choose determines the contrast and brightness of your view — ask in store for our recommendations for your environment, lifestyle, and hobbies!
